Treptow's Pledge

On this Memorial Day, the flags fly half-staff in a symbol of respect, honor and remembrance. We remember and honor the fallen American soldiers who, as President Ronald Regan once said “gave up two lives, the one they were living and the one they would have lived.”

Here is one story shared to the American people by President Reagan of a courier that reflects the stamina, courage and beauty of the true American spirit.

*Courier – a messenger who relays information and/or resources

In January 19, 1894, in Chippewa Falls, Wisconsin. Pvt. Martin A. Treptow was born. He grew up in Wisconsin but later moved to Iowa to become a barber. He was around the age of 23 when the United States entered the war in 1917.

Pvt. Treptow was enlisted to fight in France and became a soldier with the famed “Rainbow Division”. As he was carrying a message between battalions, he was gunned down by enemy fire on July 29, 1918. On him, was found his diary. In his diary, was found his pledge now famously known as “Treptow’s Pledge.”

“America must win this war. Therefore I will work, I will save, I will sacrifice, I will endure, I will fight cheerfully and do my utmost, as if the issue of the whole struggle depended on me alone.''

– Pvt. Martin A. Treptow

Today we remember the passion, the courage, love of country and love for fellow man that our fallen soldiers have carried with them in their lives and to their graves. These soldiers have allowed us the rights, privileges, freedom, and security we experience in our nation today. We honor them today. Please remember to never be afraid to demonstrate your patriotism and to honor and pray for the families of these soldiers who have also sacrificed so much.

May God bless the USA.

Happy Memorial Day.

His Little Tooth

In the recent past, my wife and I saw the dying process. We saw the body slow down, break down and shut down. It was a terrible process. But another process is taking course now. My son is growing. Hi
